Hey, folks! Matthew Weiss here. I want to tell you about Mixthru number 4. It’s an EDM record. A future beat meats festival track kind of song produced by Ninja Otter. I reached out to Otter because I really loved his progressive style, and he’s got this “no rules” way of envisioning genre that I haven’t personally subscribed to.

He also has great sound selection and sound design. So the bulk of this video is really dedicated to the idea of mixing in context. Otter nailed the production, so I saw my job as getting everything to work together optimally, which I think is ultimately the most vital part of the mixing process.

For this record, I had to make sure all of the layers blended, the drums hit hard, there’s excitement at the transition points, and I wanted the sound to have a balance of being both aggressive and raw, but at the same time, clean and polished, which is an interesting blend of ideas I think.

The Mixthru weighs in at just about over 2 hours in length. I downloaded the track-outs, organized the session, and I went from there, so what you are getting is my first pass mixing the record, so you get to see my thought process as I am doing everything fresh, and as always, the track outs are included with the tutorial so you can mix along.

I hope that you are excited. I know I am. I’m very proud of this Mixthru, and I think you’ll learn a lot. Take care!
