New Course: Producing & Recording Electric Guitar

Transcript
Hi, my name is Mark Marshall. I’ve been recording, producing, and performing music for over 25 years. In this tutorial series, entitled, “Recording and Producing Electric Guitar with Mark Marshall,” I’m going to go into the many finite details that go into developing great guitar tone.

We’ll discuss topics such as microphone choice and placement, preamp choice, dialing in the right settings for compression and EQ, and then we’ve got to dig deep into some things that may be a little bit more abstract to some of you like how the guitar pick greatly influences the EQ of your guitar, how guitar cables influence your tone, strings influence your tone…

Everything that is in your signal chain influences your tone. I’m going to talk about my concepts on gain staging with amplifiers. I also do a section on what I call case studies where I look at some of the sessions I’ve done over the past year, and I discuss my concepts behind developing those guitar tones.

My goal is that at the end of this tutorial series, you walk out having a good concept on the many things that influence your guitar tone, and also help you on sessions that trouble shoot when you know that things aren’t working out the way you desire.
